Queueing network modelling of flexible manufacturing system using mean value analysis

چکیده
In the present investigation, we develop queueing model for the performance prediction of flexible manufacturing systems (FMSs) with a multiple discrete material-handling devices (MHD). An iterative method has been suggested using mean value analysis (MVA) for the state-dependent routing. Two queueing network models are considered to determine the material-handling device interference. In the first one, we model the interference from the MHD by inflating the station service times but neglect queueing at the MHD. In another network, the queueing for the MHD is taken into consideration. The performance of FMS configuration is obtained by iterating between two networks. The suggested algorithms demonstrate better results than the algorithm used by earlier workers for single MHD. Some performance indices viz. throughput, mean service time, mean waiting time, etc. are obtained. Numerical results are provided to highlight the effect of the system parameters on performance indices, which are further evaluated by using neuro-fuzzy controller system to validate the tactability of soft computing approach. 2007 Published by Elsevier Inc.

We compare two approaches for a Markovian model in flexible manufacturing systems (FMSs) using Monte Carlo simulation. The model which is a development of Fazlollahtabar and Saidi-Mehrabad (2013), considers two features of automated flexible manufacturing systems equipped with automated guided vehicle (AGV) namely, the reliability of machines and the reliability of AGVs in a multiple AGV jobsho...
متن کاملMulti-Objective Lead Time Control in Multistage Assembly Systems (TECHNICAL NOTE)
In this paper we develop a multi-objective model to optimally control the lead time of a multistage assembly system. The multistage assembly system is modeled as an open queueing network, whose service stations represent manufacturing or assembly operations. The arrival processes of the individual parts of the product, which should be assembled to each other in assembly stations, are assumed to...
متن کاملMODELLING AND ANALYSIS OF A DISCRETE-TIME PRIORITY QUEUING COMPUTER NETWORK WITH PRIORITY JUMPS USING PROBABILITY GENERATING FUNCTIONS
Priority queues have a great importance in the study of computer communication networks in which different types of traffic require different quality of service standards. The discrete-time non-preemptive priority queuing model with priority jumps is proposed in this paper. On the basis of probability generating functions mean system contents and mean queuing delay characteristics are obtained....
متن کاملReal-time Scheduling of a Flexible Manufacturing System using a Two-phase Machine Learning Algorithm
The static and analytic scheduling approach is very difficult to follow and is not always applicable in real-time. Most of the scheduling algorithms are designed to be established in offline environment. However, we are challenged with three characteristics in real cases: First, problem data of jobs are not known in advance. Second, most of the shop’s parameters tend to be stochastic. Third, th...
